Hello everyone! Today I have a bunch of super easy and fun card ideas to share with you all about stripes!
I’m a huge lover of pattern and stripes are definitely at the top of my list cause they are simple, yet they add a special touch to any project.
I created six different cards using different products and techniques to give you some ideas on how you can turn your scrappy stash into colorful striped cards.
Big Paper Stripes
This is the perfect idea to make use of your 6×6 paper leftovers. I like my strips a little bit smaller than 1″ in thickness cause the give a lot of space for the patterns to show beautifully.
This design really lets all the patterns shine. If you have a hard time using busy patterns in scrapbooking just save them and turn them into stripy cards!
Tiny Paper Stripes
In a similar way you can use your paper scraps and cut out super thin strips of paper. This design works best with tone on tone patterns or patterns with small designs so that the tiny strips will include a good representation of the actual pattern.
For this design I really enjoy using bright and bold colors that compliment each other to create a statement color palette.
Washi Strips
This is probably the easiest and quickest way to fill a card panel with colorful strips. You can think of washi tape as a thin piece of pattern paper that comes adhesive-ready. You don’t need to mess with glue sticks and adhesive tape runners, just cut pieces of the tape and stick them right on your card.
For all of you with big washi tape collections out there, this is the perfect way to make more use out of your favorite washi rolls. This design gets even more interesting if you mix washi tapes with different widths.
Watercolor Strokes
Now let’s dive in a couple of mixed media techniques for our stripes. A really easy way to create a striped background is to use watercolor markers. What I love the most about these markers is that you can create very smooth washes if you move slowly, but you can also create a really gorgeous textured brushstroke if you apply it quickly over your paper.
Watercolor Crayons
Another mixed media technique that will give you a lovely watercolor effect is using art crayons. These crayons are water soluble so once you add water the color spreads around and creates a lovely watercolor wash.
What I love about these crayons is that, if you avoid over blending, you can keep some of that scribbly crayon texture which makes our stripes really fun and whimsical.
Paint Marker Doodles
My last mixed media technique is using paint markers. For this one I went with some loose imperfect lines that give the impression of doodling on the page. I used different line thickness for each color to add more variety and interest to the design. You can use as many or as few colors as you like but I had to go with a full rainbow look for my card.
